Don’t Be Afraid

Fear in learning a handstand is without a doubt the biggest reason that stops people learning how to handstand.

So in this post I am going to quickly run over the fear of falling and of course more importantly how to get over it.

So as I mentioned before many people are afraid to do a handstand. Now this can come from many things and that fear itself is for a later post. Here are a few key points why it’s important to get over the fear.

  1. If you are afraid of a handstand you will never be able to do one (yes I know pretty obvious)
  2. If you are scared of something you wont generally do it and you defiantly not going to go out of your way to do it. Handstands require a large amount of practice but if you are scared you not going to practice resulting in no handstands.
  3. Falling is part of the handstand journey no one I know has ever learned a handstand without falling. Quite literally handstands and falling go hand in hand you can’t have the one with out the other. This applies to everyone no matter the skill level.

So now that we have covered those points. Lets get onto how to get over the fear.

The simplest way to get over the fear is to be taught how to fall correctly with out hurting yourself. Once your brain and body understands that this can happen the fear will dissipate and never return.

So how to fall safely is the next step, this will be the topic of the next post as there is a fair amount to discuss when learning to fall and how to fall properly.

To quickly sum up.

We have looked at reasons to get over the fear of falling and more importantly a solution to getting over the fear by learning how to fall safely.
